i love...

They mask blemishes && they're super cute. It seems that I only really have them when I fake bake and since I don't do that anymore my freckles aren't as apparent. I'd like to have freckles like my grammy had...

Guest Post for Silverfaeries & Dragonflies

I write a Sunday post for my aunt's blog every Sunday, but this past week she has been making exciting changes to her site. For now, I'm going to publish my guest post on my blog until she gets things up and running again.

Vriksasana - Tree pose
from the balancing series

I am a tree.
I represent inner growth and self-realization by being deeply connected with Mother Earth.
"I reach deep into the earth to find my source of wisdom and compassion."

Vriksa = tree
Asana = Posture

Start in mountain pose.
Bend the left knee and bring the sole of the left foot to the inner right thigh, heel as close to the groin as possible.
Press the foot and the thigh firmly against each other.
Level the pelvis by dropping the left hip down and pressing the left knee out and down, away from the center of the body.
Bring hands to heart center (or for another variation, "grow your tree" bringing arms overhead).
Maintain the posture as if you were in mountain pose: shoulders down away from ears, abs pulled in and up, and spine lengthened.

Focus on the breath.
The inhale draws the earth's energy up through the standing leg.
The exhale allows you to relax in the pose, however still maintaining length in the spine and stability in the standing leg.

In this pose, you are the tree of life. Imagine the earth's energy supporting and nourishing your roots. It rises up through your being, through the seven energy chakras. Each chakra contains an element of being and sustainability for this tree of life you've created with Mother Nature. The water element provides you with sustenance to grow and lengthen through the solar plexus where sunlight is let in. The energy continues to rise up through the heart chakra, the throat chakra, into the sixth chakra where "the flower of the tree of life blossoms wisdom and self knowledge."

strengthens and stabilizes legs
eases knee pain
creates peace and balance within

Take some time this week to really connect with yourself.
Engage in breathing exercises that will help quiet and still the mind, so that you may open yourself up to self-realization and peace.
Practice yoga and find inner balance and growth.

You Open My Eyes

i wake up in the morning; i get serenaded.
i get to smell the salty air from the ocean.
i get to drive into the sunrise, rising above the mountains.
i get to work with really cool people and chill bosses.
i get to do yoga at a bad ass studio.
i get to chill in Starbucks, drinking green tea and blogging.
i get to walk to the beach to watch the sunset.

i get a choice, every new day, to see the good, the light, in every
experience i encounter.

life is good.

Detox Sunday

This morning was quite lovely.

It started pretty early (around 7 a.m.),

with a yummy green juice from The Big Squeeze.

waited for Brandi to get our yoga on at the beach.

enjoyed my juice :)

my girl Brandi (aren't her pants saweet?)
she's also a phenomenal yoga instructor.

super foggy, but still beautiful.

playing with Picnik

That concludes our yoga on the beach.
BTW, if you've never done yoga on the beach, it's worth a try. It's definitely interesting and a bit challenging, but really fun!

This Sunday was a day of detoxing and rest. I really enjoy having one day a week where I don't exercise and I don't clean. Instead, I fill my day with restorative activities and cleansing/nourishing meals. This morning was the epitome of restoring and nourishing: Green juice and yoga on the beach (my favorite place to be).

Recipe of the day (my lunch):
  • 1 hard-boiled egg
  • a spoonful of Grey Poupon Dijon mustard (YUM!)
  • a handful of chopped, roasted and salted almonds
  • a handful of diced chicken
  • 1/2 of an avocado
1. Put all ingredients, except avocado, in a small bowl.
2. Mix well.
3. Put contents on a small plate.
4. Serve with avocado as a side.
I am no chef.
I can not put together ingredients and create yummy food.
I always need a recipe/instructions when cooking.

I am a foodie.
I put what ingredients I had on hand together and it turned out super yummy.
I did not use instructions and this recipe was my own.

For the remainder of my restful and detoxifying day I sat in bed writing a Sunday post for my auntie's blog, while catching up on my blogroll and cheering on my Texas teams, both of which whooped some St. Louis tush tonight.

Shon has lived in many places in the U.S. (and he lived in Greece!), but he considers St. Louis to be his hometown, so you can probably imagine how much fun it is to talk smack to him during the World Series and when the Cowboys play the Rams. The funny thing is, I'm not a huge sports person, but since dating Shon I've gained an interest in watching sports. Not to mention it's a great way for us to chill, hang out, and bond.

To end this lovely day Shon cooked dinner! And he's doing the dishes too! So, that means mucho relaxation for this chica :)

Hope you had a wonderfully exciting, relaxing, and energizing weekend loves!
Here's to a happy Monday!

A lot of fun stuff has happened in the past couple of weeks that I'd like to share here with you, but I haven't been able to find the time to, nor have I been able to pull my thoughts together to write a cohesive post about it. I'm shooting for this weekend. In the mean time here are some random photos from this week:

Healthy Habits :)

An evening with Shonuff's co-workers.
Start of a fun day at an Italian restaurant in Encinitas, CA
Same day. Train ride to Little Italy.
Can you believe this was only my second time riding on
a train??
Little Italy!
Wine & gelato; my fave!
Getting ready to "play" tennis.
Shon probably hates "playing" tennis with me haha!
After dropping Shon off at work, I got to witness this majestic sky.
Monday Night Football with some yummy dark brew.
(And an Arrogant Bastard sign in the backdrop.)

Gas Lamp District in downtown San Diego.
Shon performed at The Stage.
Aren't these buildings beautiful?
tried to photograph my attempt at a fishtail braid
to no avail.
However, I do like the photo.
First time (EVER!) getting a cupcake from Sprinkles. This one had pieces
of almond in it...yum! I plan on going there every Wednesday for the
pumpkin flavor, every Thursday for the chai latte flavor, AND every Sunday
for my absolute favorite flavor of anything in the world: LEMON.
This day that I went, we just so happened to pass by as they just
gave away their secret code for a free cupcake on FB. Hehe.
Can you see the body of water over yonder? Well, that my friends is MY
view from MY bed. Awesomeness. And in that exact spot, every night
around 10 o'clock, I get to see a fireworks show :)
My sexy boyfriend (tonight at the Green Flash Brewery
in Mira Mesa).
Shon's drink = gone.
Mine = super strong and not yet finished!

That's all for now.

BTW, I made a WILDyetZenful Facebook fan page, so you should definitely LIKE it. I think I'll use it to announce new posts and for any random daily life updates/photos.

Also, you can Twitter me, which is also filled with randomness :)

I leave you with some Yosh:

Fave part at 3:55.
And climax shortly after 4:24.
Or you could just watch the whole thing.

Hope you've had a wonderful week & a happy Friday.
Here's to the weekend!

Detox Sunday

He's brewing butterscotch toffee coffee and while he sits awaiting a cup, he indulges in a bit of chocolate&&peanut covered toffee; the toffee that we got on our day trip to Julian, CA yesterday from a cute little store called, Julian Cider Mill: Nuts & Honey. The aroma fills our apartment and the envy sets in.

What I really wanted...chocolate toffee pecans. Mmm.

Homemade jams and candies! And way too many people in
such a small store.

The chocolate/peanut covered toffee we ended up getting. It was delish!

haha goof.

I've decided to save indulgent treats and eats for Saturdays, but if I really want something I'm not going to deprive myself of my desires :) When I do this, Sunday becomes a day where all I really want is to fill my body up with nutritious and fresh foods.

Needless to say, that is why today was a day of detox and rest for me. Friday and Saturday were pretty indulgent days filled with wine, beer, apple pie, milkshakes, chocolate, and chips; oh, and not much sleep!

So, this mornin' Shon had his delicious smelling coffee with his sweet treat breakfast (boy was it hard not to cave into that), while I started my day with a super energizing green smoothie, and let me tell ya, it's just as good at waking ya up as coffee is.

The rest of the day went like this:
  • convince Shonuff to give me a massage (has yet to happen and the night is almost over)
  • play Yahtzee: I won a game & Shon won a game
My second Yahtzee :) 100 points...BOOM!

  • lots of rest, including a two hour nap
  • watch Bucket List from my bed while reading fashion blogs (and wishing I were a fashionista)
  • enjoy detoxifying liquid meals (one was cocoa, banana, and PB!)

  • watch the Cowboys lose in the last few seconds of the game
I have many photos of mine and Shon's outings from the past two weekends; in due time they'll be available for your viewing pleasure. (That's not supposed to sound snooty or conceited in any way. ha!)

hope you had an amazing weekend && a wonderful week to come!

15 Day Challenge-Day 15: Here's to the highs!

Jugo-nichi (Day 15)
What were your highs and lows of this past month?

-i engaged in many days of binge eating; binge eating = my escape from reality.
-i had more lazy days than productive days.
-i let go of my healthy ways.
-i stopped singing and performing.
-i stopped practicing yoga.

-i'm learning how to cope with the stresses of life instead of running to food for a release.
-my mindset has been getting progressively better: more up days than down.
-i started writing on this blog more consistently.
-got to let loose with one of my fave girlfriends.
-my ninja and i celebrated our 1 year anniversary.
-i taught my first yoga class.
-money woes haven't phased me.
-all of my lows are beginning to see the back burner at a rapid pace :)

You can't have highs without the lows. Although I'd rather not have any lows ever, and I'd rather not showcase them on my blog, they are an essential part of life. Without the bad there wouldn't be any good, at least there wouldn't be a way to tell if something was good. Here's to the lows and here's to the highs!

15 Day Challenge-Day 14: Sing me a song

Juyokka (Day 14):
What did you want to be when you grew up? What are you now?

I'm fishing in a sea of memories and the only thing that comes to mind is:
A famous singer.

I used to sing along to Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, and the Spice Girls.
I choreographed moves to all my favorite songs of the late 90s, and used my grandmother's webcam to record my mini performances.
MTV and VH1 were the two channels I frequently watched; I was obsessed with watching Carson Daly on TRL; I loved music videos and reading magazines about the artists I truly admired.
I dreamed of someday touring the world on stage.

Now, I'm a student of life, a yoga practitioner, aspiring singer/songwriter, and fitness & health enthusiast.
I wouldn't mind being an entrepreneur or a world traveler or an activist for an important cause.

15 Day Challenge-Day 13: You're just a kid.

Jusan-nichi (Day 13)
If you could go back and tell your 15-year-old self something, what would you say?

Listen up chica: Stop trying to grow up so fast && stop being so dang boy crazy && stop being so involved with trying to look pretty.

Go to school. Make friends. Do your homework. Get involved in extra-curriculars. And just enjoy the present moment; know that whatever the future has in store for you, it will be good and you will be happy.

Can't stop listening/ favorite part starts at 3:55 and it climaxes like crazy shortly after that at 4:24 :)
Check it.

15 Day Challenge-Day 12: Mi Dia

Juni-nichi (Day 12)
Bullet your whole day.

  • Awoke around 5AM.
  • Cooked scrambled eggs and spinach (with a dollop of hummus && side of grapes) for Shonuff and I.
  • Drove Shonuff to work (as we share a car) and proceeded to the yoga studio.
  • Took the 7AM vinyasa flow class with Todd (he's such a rad guy!) I'd like to point out that lately I have been really hesitant to practice at the studio; there's no reason behind this hesitation, but let me tell you, going today was a wonderful idea. That class set my whole day up to be a really good day :)
  • Got my fitness on using a workout from Bodyrock. It kicked my booty and my legs feel good now! :)
  • Arrived to work an hour early to just relax and eat lunch.

Splendid lunch, indeed.
  • Had a blast, as usual, with the Opera girlies...aren't we cute? Haha. Picked Shonuff up from work.
Me, Jennifer, Vanessa, & Kristiana

  • Played in traffic for a bit-I find traffic to be meditative :) or the perfect time to talk Shon's ears off!
  • Went to VONs for some mixed greens for dinner && burger patties 'n hot dogs for a BBQ tomorrow.
  • Blogging while Shonuff cooks dinner and The Simpson's plays in the background (I told you before, I know that it's classy that I like to watch this kind of stuff).
  • Chocolate chip cookie and vanilla almond milk time = Good times.
  • Date with Shonuff in bed @ 8:30 ;)

Kind of an uneventful, but really good, day.

15 Day Challenge-Day 11: Fight Club

15 Day Challenge-Day 10: Famous

Ju-nichi (Day 10)
Give a picture of 5 of your favorite famous people and explain why you like them.

All of the people involved in organizations like these:
Movement to re-abolish slavery
TOMS rocks
Fight to end hunger
or just activists in general because giving our time and energy to people in need should be a top priority in our lives. I really admire the movers and shakers of activism.

I read his autobiography and felt really inspired by his life journey.

I love his chill, beachy music && his fun lyrics.
Listening to him always makes me smile :)

Jessie J
The video that won me over:

Just look at her...
Her voice, her smile, her style, her performances...she just rocks!
She's my singing idol :)

Blake Lively
From what I see, she's the whole package: She's beautiful (that hair, that smile, those legs!), fashionable, kind, talented, humorous, down-to-earth, and cool.
